Rep. LaFave: Gov. Whitmer’s State of the State rings hollow
RELEASE|January 27, 2022

In response to the governor’s annual State of the State, Rep. Beau LaFave (R-Iron Mountain) issued the following statement:

“It’s important to highlight some examples of where the governor fell short on prior commitments made by the administration. Our Legislature passed an election-reform package through the House and Senate, only to be vetoed by the governor. The proposals would have made common-sense changes. Each of the four bills had broad, bipartisan support when they were approved by the House.

“She put COVID-19 positive patients back into nursing homes, which contributed to high death rates for our most vulnerable population. The number of nursing home deaths was not fully disclosed by the governor’s administration, by an astounding 42 percent, according to a report by the State Auditor General.

“There have also been notable gaps in the Whitmer administration’s ability to connect veterans with their benefits. There is still an enormous amount of work to be done for both veterans, and active-duty service members. Let’s save the parading for a real win.”
