City of Belding Housing Commission Director Sharon Carlson was recently recognized by the office of State Rep. Pat Outman for her 34 years of dedicated service to preserving access to safe and affordable housing for area residents.
“What Sharon does for the area is truly thankless work, so we wanted to be sure to extend our gratitude,” Outman said. “The city has been blessed to have her in its corner for more than three decades.”
Belding City Councilors Linda Curtis and Bonita Steele encouraged Rep. Outman to recognize Director Carlson’s many years of service. Councilman Nikolai Zerkle, who also serves as Outman’s legislative aide, presented the tribute at a city council meeting.
Director Carlson has been an active member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials since 2007; sharing her expertise nationally as a mentor to other housing professionals and serving in multiple leadership capacities, including her most recent role as a member of the board of governors. Recently, the NAHRO honored her as a fellow, recognizing her for decades of leadership, excellence and service.
She is also deeply involved in the local community, having served as chair of the city’s Downtown Development Authority, City Recreation Advisory Board, and County Substance Abuse Initiative Advisory Board.
