State Rep. Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) Tuesday voted in support of a responsible House budget plan that holds the line on government spending while continuing to fund the services Michigan residents depend on most.

The House-passed omnibus budget, totaling $56.6 billion, covers most state departments outside of education. It follows the House’s earlier approval of a $21.9 billion School Aid Fund budget that delivers record-level investments into Michigan classrooms. Combined, the House budget proposal totals $78.5 billion which is a 3.7% reduction from the current year’s budget.

“This budget is a step in the right direction,” said Wozniak. “It is focused, efficient, and responsible. We’ve trimmed the excess waste, prioritized programs that matter most, and built a plan that puts taxpayers first.”

The House’s overall budget plan is also 6% smaller than the governor’s proposed spending plan and 7.2% smaller than the version advanced by the Senate.

“Families across Michigan are doing more with less, and it’s time their government did the same,” said Wozniak. “This budget reflects our commitment to responsible leadership and ensures that state resources are used wisely and transparently.”
